The magnetic separator is a device that uses the difference in magnetic properties to separate magnetic materials from a mixture through magnetic force.

There are many types of magnetic separators, which are usually classified according to the following core characteristics:

Classification by Magnetic Field Intensity

* Weak Magnetic Field Separator: Used for separating strongly magnetic minerals, such as magnetite.


* Medium Magnetic Field Separator: Between weak and strong magnetic fields, mainly used for processing moderately magnetic minerals, such as ilmenite.


* Strong Magnetic Field Separator: Generates a strong magnetic field to separate weakly magnetic minerals, such as hematite, limonite, and manganese ore. To further improve the separation effect for fine-grained minerals, high-gradient magnetic separators have been developed. These utilize a special medium to generate an extremely high magnetic field gradient on top of a strong magnetic field, effectively recovering micron-sized weakly magnetic minerals.

Classification by Working Medium

* Dry Magnetic Separator: Commonly used for processing large, dry, and free-flowing materials, such as pre-selecting discarded waste rock after ore crushing. 


* Wet magnetic separators: Use water as the separation medium and are widely used, especially suitable for processing fine-grained ores. They offer high separation efficiency and effectively process slurry.

Classification by Magnetic Source Type

Permanent magnet magnetic separators: Use permanent magnet materials such as neodymium iron boron and ferrite to generate a magnetic field. They are simple in structure, energy-efficient, and currently the most widely used type. 


Electromagnetic magnetic separators: Generate a magnetic field by energizing a coil. Their magnetic field strength is usually adjustable, but they are power-intensive and have a complex structure.
