Mineral pickling production line
[Overview]: Quartz pickling process is the core purification technology for producing high-purity quartz sand/silicon powder (especially electronic grade), which is mainly used to deeply remove non-magnetic metal impurities (mainly iron, aluminum, titanium, calcium, magnesium and other oxides) on the surface and cracks of quartz particles. Its essence is to use acid (mainly hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, oxalic acid or their mixture) to react chemically with impure metal oxides to generate soluble salts, which are then removed by repeated water washing, thereby significantly improving the purity of SiO2 (up to 99.99% or more).
[Production line advantages]: good whiteness, high purity, low cost, high efficiency; large output, short reaction time; simple and reasonable process, easy operation; environmentally friendly and pollution-free, tailings discharge meets environmental standards.
Process Description
-
01
Feed Preparation
Quartz sand/powder after crushing, grinding (usually grinding to the target particle size, such as 40-200 mesh), and preliminary magnetic separation to remove iron. The higher the purity of the raw material (SiO₂ >99.5%), the better the pickling effect and the lower the acid consumption. Remove dust and soluble salts attached to the surface of the raw material.

02
Acid Leaching/Washing
Add the pretreated quartz sand/powder to the reactor with acid solution (solid-liquid ratio is the key parameter, usually 1:1 to 1:3). Continuous stirring ensures that the particles are fully in contact with the acid solution to prevent sedimentation and agglomeration. The temperature is usually controlled at 60°C - 95°C. High temperature can greatly shorten the reaction time (several hours to more than ten hours) and improve the impurity removal rate.

03
Acid Separation & Waste Acid Treatment
After the reaction, separate the acid solution from the quartz particles. Drain the waste acid solution as much as possible to reduce the residual acid entering the water washing system. For waste acid with relatively low impurity content, evaporation concentration, extraction, ion exchange and other methods can be considered to recover part of the acid (especially hydrochloric acid).
-
04
Washing/Rinsing
To completely remove the acid and dissolved metal ions remaining on the surface and pores of the quartz particles. Usually 5-10 or even more rinses are required. The most water-saving method is to add new water from the last stage, overflow forward step by step, and discharge dirty water from the first stage. The discharged dirty water can be used for front-end cleaning or waste acid treatment system.

05
Drying
Dry the dehydrated wet sand to a very low moisture content (usually <0.1%) to meet the requirements of subsequent processing or packaging. You can choose our single-drum dryer or three-drum dryer, equipped with a water bath dust removal system, which can effectively avoid dust generated during the drying process.
